Leap Into Reality

This weekend, we premiere John Freedman's English translation of Olga Mukhina's Flying, and we host our New Russian Drama Festival.

The moment approaches, the lines are converging.

  • In a few hours, an actor for our staged-reading of Maksym Kurochkin's Repress and Excite will begin his drive through the recently snow-packed Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia to catch a flight to Austin.
  • From Baltimore, Philip Arnoult, director of the Center For International Theatre Development, will wend his way to join the discussion.
  • And in Moscow, two playwrights, Olga Mukhina and Maksym Kurochkin, will navigate their way through Domodedovo airport, bombed just 2 days ago, and begin their journey toward an Austin welcome.

And here in Austin, we've just completed a run through of Flying and are working furiously to finish the million tasks needful to share this work. There is too much coffee, fast-food, and chaos. There is also beauty, courage, camaraderie.

This is called taking a leap into reality.
